The earth sign Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus and represented by, you guessed it, the bull. Taurus are typically dependable, affectionate, patient and stubborn people. A great strength of Taurus signs is their ability to be both immovable object and irresistible force. What they choose to do, they will do but they cannot be forced or pushed into anything. In Taurus, the stability of an earth sign combines with the esthetic influence of Venus to create a responsible, steadfast personality with a deep appreciation for the finer things in life. Here are some of our recommendations for Taurus readers:
Elizabeth the Queen – Sally Bedell Smith – From the moment of her ascension to the throne in 1952 at the age of twenty-five, Queen Elizabeth II (a Taurus herself) has been the object of unparalleled scrutiny. But through the fog of glamour and gossip, how well do we really know the world’s most famous monarch? Drawing on numerous interviews and never-before-revealed documents, acclaimed biographer Sally Bedell Smith pulls back the curtain to show in intimate detail the public and private lives of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Book of Delights – Ross Gay – It’s not just big pleasures that a Taurus enjoys, but the little ones too. That’s why this book should be on every Taurus’ reading list. This collection of brief essays are perfect to read while sitting outside, soaking up the early morning sun, and sipping on a cup of coffee. Each essay is short and sweet, but they go deep. You won’t find flippant positivity here. Instead, Ross Gay is earnest and joyful, while never shying away from the moments where delight is hard to find. This book can be gulped down, but I highly recommend that you take your time with it, take a sip or two every day, and really sit with Ross Gay and his wonderful, humorous, potent thoughts.
Grit – Angela Duckworth – The daughter of a scientist who frequently noted her lack of “genius,” Angela Duckworth is now a celebrated researcher and professor. It was her early eye-opening stints in teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience that led to her hypothesis about what really drives success: not genius, but a unique combination of passion and long-term perseverance. Taureans understand that concept!
A Burning – Megha Majumdar – Tauruses are not known for being theatrical, but they love reading dramatic books with a straightforward message. The book A Burning focuses on the current political state of India, a big story that tackles corruption, inequality, and prejudice. Taurus, who is cosmically known to fight for social justice, will get angry – a sentiment they rarely publicly exhibit—while reading the unfairness and injustices in this book, which just might push the bull to advocate for oppressed individuals throughout the world.
King Lear – Shakespeare – Okay, so a lot has been made about how Shakespeare wrote King Lear during the 1606 quarantine due to the plague. Yes, this is true. Yes, this is exactly how a Taurus would spend their time—at home, working away and plotting for world fame. But in all seriousness, King Lear is a great read during this time, in part because it will make you question power (if you haven’t been questioning it already). The only power a Taurus respects is their willpower. This should be obvious. Also, please text your Taurus friends about tips during the quarantine if you are freaking out being at home for too long. They know what to do! This is how they basically live at all times of the year
Tiger Lily – Jodie Lynn Anderson – This YA book should be read by you bulls out there for many reasons. 1) If Tiger Lily was any star sign, she would most definitely be a Taurus. Like pretty much every bull you will ever meet, she is passionate, loyal, grounded and just all-around tough. 2) This story follows the romance between Tiger Lily and Peter. Taurus-born love a good passionate romance. There are also various moments throughout the book when we see Tiger Lily’s character display prominent Taurus traits such as loyalty and commitment towards Peter. When everyone and everything seems to be tearing the two apart, Tiger Lily’s devotion never fades–even when Peter’s does. This adaptation has an extremely earthy vibe/tone to it that makes it the perfect read for a Taurus (an earth sign).
