“Only as high as I reach can I grow
-Karen Ravn
Only as far as I seek can I go
Only as deep as I look can I see
Only as much as I dream can I be”
Ever asked your child what they dream to be or do? I love hearing their answers because it allows me access to see how imaginative and determined they can be. You may hear one day that they dream of being an astronaut, soaring through the universe in their rocket ship. Or, you may hear that instead of being an astronaut, they’ve decided that they want to be a superhero/ballerina/unicorn/ ninja with crime-fighting pets that can talk only to them. When a child dreams, man, they dream BIG! Granted, some of these dreams are definitely impossible. But, when it comes to a child, they do not believe in the “impossible”. Many of our famous, historical figures didn’t believe in the impossible either, and look how some of them turned out. That’s why it’s important to nurture a child’s imagination and determination! Let’s not deter them in their dreams! Let’s continue to open their eyes to the possibilities of their dreams coming true.
Don’t worry! I’m not going to leave you high and dry without any resources and reading suggestions! Here at Homewood Public Library, we have some amazing children books on dreaming big, following their dreams, and accomplishing their goals! We even have some amazing non-fiction biographies of the great figures who did the impossible in following their dreams (IN REAL LIFE), which can help set great examples for your child! Who knows, you may be THE GREAT ONE in their eyes!
So, have fun! Dream big. Reach for the stars.
Happy Reading….and Dreaming!
