Our library partners are doing amazing things to help us learn and read from home. Here is a list of resources to help you on your learning journey:

April is National Poetry Month so we are hosting a virtual K-12 Grade Poetry Contest in the month of April. Click here to submit a poem!

Our Spring Into Reading contest is going strong on Beanstack! Log the books you read or listen to each week for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

The Alabama Virtual Library also has an extension of their services. You can find a list of the extensions here. Pebble Go is a great AVL resource for books about animals, science, biographies and social studies.

Tumblebooks is a wonderful resource that you can use with your library card through our website for read-alongs for preschool and elementary age students, but they have now extended their resources to include Tumblemath, Teen Book Cloud and Audio Book Cloud.

Overdrive has many eBooks and audiobooks that you can read or listen to using the Libby app including many classic books that are always available. Also, Homewood Board of Education students can access our Overdrive library using their student ID and Sora app.

Homewood residents can use hoopla for music, movies, books and audio, and they have now allowed Bonus Borrows that do not count towards your monthly allotment. See the list of items here!

Kanopy is another great resource for Homewood residents to access educational video content.

Just for Kids Video is granting patrons FREE access with username: patrontrial and password: trial. These educational videos cover math, reading, history and more!

Homework Alabama has expanded their hours from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m. to access one-on-one virtual tutoring on all K-12 subjects.

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has a Pawsitive Kids Virtual Camp with videos and activities to help teach animal and character education.

The Birmingham Zoo is posting Virtual Zoo Camp videos to their Facebook page for a behind the scenes look at all of your favorite animals!

Jan Mattingly of Dynamic Education Adventures is posting science lesson videos to her Facebook and Youtube page!

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is posting videos and webinars to their Facebook page on topics such as insects and gardening and science.

Scholastic’s Learn at Home resource is a one stop shop for great lesson plans that include reading, videos and activities for each day of the school week.

Breakout EDU has Fun at Home resources for K-12 graders that work on math and reasoning skills.

NASA Kid’s Club has wonderful information and learning activities for Preschool-4th graders.

Hour of Code activities make for a fun afternoon of learning as they walk participants through each step of the way.

We Need Diverse Books has compiled links to resources to help parents and educators connect kids to books and learning during this time.

PBS Learning Media has resources organized by grade, subject and standards.
