nine-women-one-dress-282x450It’s all about the dress…

The pre-publication press on this novel inspired hopes for a Sisters of the Traveling Pants readalike for adults, and I was incredibly excited to dive in. That is not, however, what Nine Women, One Dress is at all (teaching me, once again, to never trust publisher’s blurb). Instead the novel links disparate people through a classic little black dress, the season’s must have. From the birth of the dress by an elderly pattern maker to the shopgirl who wears the dress to a movie premier, the plot is advanced by the procurement and display of this seemingly magical dress.  Who knew a dress could have the power to change lives?

Nine Women, One Dress is written from MANY points of view – each of the people whose lives are touched by it. While this sounds complicated and difficult to follow, the stories are brilliantly linked and flow seamlessly into each other. While I would have liked to linger of my favorite characters, the quick changes from person to person fit the theme and tone of the story perfectly. I loved this novel, and recommend it as a fast, fun read.
