A Great Second Act (LIFE REVIEW – Part Two)

We let go of some books when they have sat on the shelf unnoticed for years. What happens next? They are donated to Friends downstairs, where they may be snatched up by our patrons for beach and pool reads, for car and airplane trips, and for personal and school libraries.  Book collectors troll the shelves for the occasional rare and valuable book.  Some of the books that made me sad in Part One of this blog surprise us with a great Second Act.  They are travel companions, nursing home companions, hospital comforters.  They entertain and enlighten a new clientele.

That’s not all; the money from these book sales supports Homewood’s library programs, very much like the car you donate to public radio.  The books we love become the programs you enjoy.

ON SUNDAY, MAY 17, the Friends Bookstore is having a $5 Bag Sale.  Come fill a sack with books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, and other items!  We’ll provide the bags. The Friends of the Library bookstore is on the lower level of the library, and the money generated through sales helps support the library’s mission. This sale lasts just TWO HOURS. Participate in a Great Second Act.

[To donate books, or for more information, contact “Friends” at (205) 332-6651. Our normal (NON-SALE) bookstore hours are: Monday – Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Stop by often to get great deals on everything from current best sellers to classics to collectibles.]
