Favorite Graphic Novels of 2021

Whether you call it graphic novels or comic books, some of the Children’s Department staff has their favorites of 2021 to share with you all! Come check these titles out (or find out more new ones) at the Homewood Public Library Children’s Department or place a hold on them through the links provided below. Enjoy!

  • Allergic by Megan Wagner Lloyd
    • Being allergic to dogs is a nightmare, especially when that’s all you really want for your birthday. However, Maggie’s allergy to anything with fur doesn’t stop her from having a pet of her own. This humorous, yet heartwarming graphic novel explores topics such as family, friendship, and finding a place to belong.
  • Narwhal’s School of Awesomeness by Ben Clanton
    • As part of the hilarious graphic novel series, Narwhal and Jelly, this book will make readers laugh out loud as the two protagonists become teachers. Of course, they have to include their favorite waffles during class and play “Tag! You’re awesome!” during recess. Young readers are sure to enjoy their silliness and positivity!
  • Chunky by Yehudi Mercado
    • In this graphic novel based on the author’s childhood, Hudi and his imaginary friend Chunky try to find a place for themselves in their neighborhood and school. As the only Mexican-Jewish kid around, he doesn’t feel like he belongs, but his passion for comedy makes him appreciate what makes him different.
  • Pawcasso by Remy Lai
    • When Jo spots a dog in her neighborhood, she follows it to find out the mystery behind where he’s going and who his owners are. This adorable graphic novel is perfect for dog-lovers, art enthusiasts, and adventure-seeking middle grade readers.
