This year the Homewood Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) has three graduating TAB members. To recognize their dedication over the last few years, we asked them what TAB means to them. Caitlin Nichols joined TAB in August 2018. Since then, she has become a dedicated member of our volunteer group. She is always willing to share ideas and think outside of the box when it comes to teen events. While she might be graduating from TAB, we know that Caitlin still plans to be a life long library user! Thank you for all your years of service to TAB and the Homewood Public Library.

After high school plans? I plan to spend a year or so doing 2 or 3 terms at Jefferson State Community College to knock the basics out. Then I plan to find another university so I can focus on my major of game design and programming.

What are you most excited about now that you have graduated? I’m really excited to get a job and plan for a future house eventually. I’m also really excited to get to explore the library while my sister is taking part in the Teen Advisory Board.

What inspired you to initially join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB)? I have always loved the library, it’s like a second safe place aside from the house. The second or third visit to the Homewood library, my mom saw the flyer for TAB and I loved the idea of getting to plan new things for the teen section and new events for every age.

What has been your favorite part/memory of TAB? I really enjoyed the henna sessions and the food. My favorite part was definitely getting to meet all the new people and seeing how much I had in common with so many others. I also loved doing the scavenger hunt after TAB let out.

Any message you would like to leave the younger members of TAB? Enjoy it while you’re in it. It was definitely one of my favorite parts of high school because I loved going to the library and catching up with the staff. It’s definitely worth it trying new things such as TAB if you’re shy because it brought me out of my shell a bit. And don’t be scared to express yourself, volunteer, do whatever you can to help the library because it’s a lot of fun.
