Mardi Gras is always celebrated on a Tuesday, and this year it was on February 16. It is sometimes referred to as Fat Tuesday, because people indulge in all kinds of foods before fasting for Lent, usually observed by Christians. While it marks the beginning of the Christian Lent season, Mardi Gras is recognized by almost everyone in the world and is especially celebrated in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. Mardi Gras is known for its fun parades, beautifully designed floats, and masked balls. The colors seen everywhere during this festival are purple, green, and gold, which represents justice, faith, and power. People wear and decorate with these colors around this time. Mardi Gras is definitely one of the most ornate and elaborate days of the year. Unfortunately, this year was a lot different due to the pandemic. The usual parade of floats, which are the main attractions, were absent. However, “house floats” started to emerge so people can still enjoy the spirit of Mardi Gras. Houses were adorned by all kinds of decorations that resemble the floats, and people were able to walk around safely while admiring them. If you missed Mardi Gras this year, no worries! Here are some nonfiction and fiction books for all ages about this fabulous day, which will transport you to this magical event. Enjoy!
