Say hello to Kelly in Circulation!

We have a few new friendly faces here at the Homewood Public Library. Meet Kelly, who will be working part-time in the Circulation Department. We thought it would be fun to introduce Kelly to our community with some silly questions to break the ice. Next time you see Kelly in the Library, be sure to say hello!

Greatest accomplishment? Becoming a mom! Aside from parenthood, I’m often pleased with myself for really silly things like making a compost pile.

If you could have a superpower what would it be? Teleportation. I was very into a tv show called The Tomorrow People in the early 90s where the kids could teleport.

Early riser or night owl? I can be either! I lean towards night owl, but I love getting up early on vacation.

What app is always running on your phone? Instagram! I love finding new children’s book recommendations for my 4-year-old there.

How did you end up in Birmingham, AL? My husband is from Birmingham, and we moved here after we graduated from college (UNC-Chapel Hill). I’ve stayed for the food and the people!

Favorite movie? Amélie

Auburn or Alabama? Roll Tide! I’m starting grad school at Alabama in the Fall!

Which Hogwarts House do you belong to? I refuse to be sorted but I usually claim Gryffindor (and sometimes Ravenclaw)!

Celebrity crush? I can’t think of any current crushes but I think Kristen Bell is amazing! I love The Good Place!

Any pets? Not at the moment, but I used to have a hedgehog named Percival Prink!

Dream vacation spot? I always want to go back to France! If I had to choose somewhere I haven’t been I would pick Scotland or Iceland.

Favorite ice cream flavor? Mint chocolate chip is my absolute top favorite, but I also love Rocky Road, Bluebell Peppermint, Jeni’s Goat cheese with red cherries, chocolate chip cookie dough, and Bubblegum!

Last book you read? Better than Before by Gretchen Ruben. I love learning about habits!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A paleontologist (at age 5) followed by an archaeologist (at age 9). I loved dinosaurs and Egypt!. I actually met my husband on an archaeological dig in Natchez, Mississippi, so I got to live that part of my childhood dream. I also recently took my son to a fossil hunt and he loved it, so the dream lives on!

What are you looking forward to the most by working at the Homewood Library? Getting to spend time with people! After 2020 it is especially nice to see people in person. I’m also excited to get to know more of Homewood’s collection while processing returned items and get ideas for my next reads/listens/watches!
