Kanopy

Here at the Homewood Library, we make streaming media to your device even easier than checking out a book from our shelves. We currently offer streaming from services such as Overdrive and Hoopla, and now we’ve added Kanopy.  Kanopy is a way to stream documentaries and indie films under every topic imaginable. Just how many movies are we talking about? Kanopy offers over some 26,000 titles to stream including award-winning documentaries, training films, indie and foreign films, classic must-see’s and theatrical releases on any topic you can think up…. just to name a few.

Searching this vast collection of films could easily be daunting, but Kanopy makes it easy. Search by subject or a specific filmmaker and you can even filter your search by year of production, featured actors/personalities, language and more. Feeling adventurous? Browse the catalog and find something you didn’t expect!

Once you’ve found a film you’d like to see, simply check them out and watch anytime, anywhere, on any device (including Roku!) Patrons of the Homewood Public Library can create a free log-in and check out up to 10 movies a month for 3 days at a time per library card holder. Best of all, just like Hoopla, Kanopy’s titles are all instantly available-no holds, no waiting.

For all the teachers and homeschooler’s out there, Kanopy will prove to be invaluable. Because Kanopy comes with performance rights, they make it possible to stream videos in your very own classroom!
