The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik WIKING

Format: Book

Length: 240 pages

Review: Hygge (pronounced Hoo-ga) is a Danish concept only recently adopted by other countries.  Danes are said to be among the happiest cultures in the world.  They attribute much of their happiness to comfort, togetherness, well-being, a feeling of home and being surrounded by people and things you love.  Basically the sensation of being cozy. This is Hygge. I have a few Pinterest boards dedicated to the theme myself.  This book is one of many I’ve checked out on the subject.  You’re sure to find inspiration here for sparking your own concept of Hygee.

Cats: Highlights From the Motion Picture Soundtrack by Andrew Lloyd WEBBER

Format: Hoopla Music

Length: 16 tracks (the average song about 4 minutes)

Review: Sometimes I like musicals.  Though I haven’t yet seen the new movie, I was lured in by Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, and Judy Dench, as I am always curious how a Hollywood actor sounds the first time they sing in a movie. I enjoyed listening to this one.  As did my children.  My mother once wanted to name a cat we found Mr. Mistofelees.  She once read me the story, so I was happy to find an entire track dedicated to the cat who’s name made me laugh as a child.

Perfume: the Story of a Murderer

Format: Major Motion Picture (2006)

Length: 2 hr 27 min

Review: I LOVE this book by Patrick Süskind.  And likewise I enjoy the movie.  It’s not one I come across often, but I was happy I could stream it through Kanopy and watch it again.  Starring the late Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman. If you like deep and twisted movies with character development, I urge you to give this one a try.
