As of yesterday, April 11th, 2021, 35% of people in the United States have received at least 1 dose of the Covid-19 vaccine (Our World in Data); more than 2 million shots of the vaccine have been administered in Alabama alone. And mandates, such as the mask mandate, are relaxing in the state, leaving the cities- and individuals- to decide for themselves whether or not they will take additional precautions. News agencies are reporting that in some states, the numbers of both positive tests for the virus, as well as hospitalizations as a result, are on the rise. Information surrounding this virus is constantly being presented through various media outlets, social media platforms, and even in neighborhood conversation. All of this information creates questions.

How effective are the vaccines? How exactly did the virus behave in vaccinated patients? Will we need boosters? How effective are the vaccines against the variants of Covid-19? And what about current treatment efforts? Are there any new or notable advancements?

Homewood Public Library and UAB’s Neuroscience Café virtual program for the month of April may be able to answer all of these questions, as well as others that you may have.
