Jason Matthews spent over 30 years as a special agent in the clandestine service division. After leaving the CIA in 2010, he started writing. He combined stories from people he knew along with patchwork of personal experiences, before long a novel was formed. Red Sparrow, the first of the Red Sparrow Trilogy, was met with critical acclaim. The book was praised for its accurate portrayal of surveillance and counter surveillance techniques. It also has really great recipes.
Matthews sold the movie rights and locked down a second book deal before Red Sparrow was published. The movie was released in March 2018. It starred Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton.
