Black History Month is the yearly celebration of the achievements by African Americans and “a time to recognize the central roles of African Americans in U. S. History”. In the United States, February is the month chosen to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of renowned African-Americans and other peoples of African descent; to spotlight how they endured various trials and tribulations, obstacles and limits placed on them due to the color of their skin, and PERSEVERED successfully. Many broke barriers and changed the world through their leadership, inventions, talents, gifts, intelligence, and love.

But, that’s not all Black History Month is about! It also is about making sure we continue to carry and tell their historical stories to present and future generations. On our shelves in the Children’s Library, we carry the stories of our past, present, and future (that means your children) stories written by some amazing storytellers! The perfect way to celebrate Black History Month is by reading about their history, carrying their stories, and creating our own stories for the next generation!
