Jane Austen Regency Ball

Jane Austen’s six major novels take a critical and often humorous look at life in the late 1700s. The tales of life, and love, are filled with irony, and a sense of realism about the era and the characters she wrote about.

Austen is very pertinent even today, because she wrote about people and their problems, their dysfunctional families, why, and even if, women should marry. Those issues were relevant then, and they’re relevant now. She created these characters so brilliantly that we recognize them today.

Two centuries after her untimely demise, her life and work is remembered by those who love her novels and want to mark her influence. Join us as we partner with the Jane Austen Society as we host a Jane Austen Regency Ball here on Saturday, March 30, from 7-9:30p.m. in our Large Auditorium.

No prior ballroom experience is necessary and novices are welcome. There will also be a practice session from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for those who wish to learn some of the dances prior to the Ball. Attendance of the practice session is not a requisite to attend and/or dance at the Ball. We will have a “caller,” who will provide instructions for the dances as we go, and refreshments will be served. Period costumes are encouraged, but not required.

The cost is $20 per person (the price includes practice session). This event is for adults and teens. You must call to reserve your spot (though payment not required until the day of the event).
