You’ve likely noticed many new faces around the Library. Since we are back up 7 days a week, we brought on a few new staff members to help. Meet Natalie! She is part-time in the Circulation Department and is excited to join the HPL staff. She was open to answering our interview questions as a fun way to introduce her to the community. Be sure to say “hello” when you see her at the Customer Service Desk!

Greatest accomplishment?

I would say one of my greatest accomplishments is graduating (and surviving haha!) Jefferson County International Baccalaureate which is the high school I went to, we started off with 120 students but my graduating class was 60! Being part of that 50% was very rewarding.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Ooh I would say teleportation, especially after quarantine I would like to just be able to *poof* wherever I wanted to go.

Early riser or night owl?

100% a night owl, I stay up till 1-2am on a regular basis and absolutely hate waking up early in the mornings.

What app is always running on your phone?

Probably either Instagram or tiktok, I love seeing other people’s photos and videos, especially if they make me laugh.

What’s the one thing that can instantly make you feel better?

Over quarantine my cousin got me into k-pop and BTS can always bring a smile to my face. They are so genuine and hilarious so if I’m ever feeling down, I immediately go watch videos of them and their variety show where they act like total goofs and it cheers me up.

Favorite movie?

It’s too hard for me to pick just one! I’m going to say its a tie between Sing Street, About Time and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Ugh they are just so good I could never decide on only one ?

Auburn or Alabama?

Neither!! I have grown up going to UAB games and am a Blazer at heart, I plan on attending grad school there at the beginning of the year!

Which Hogwarts House do you belong to?

I am a 100% a proud Hufflepuff through and through. To all my fellow Hufflepuffs out there, don’t ever let anyone tell you that we are the leftover house!! We are loyal friends and have big hearts also our common room is by the kitchen so who’s the real winner here?

Food you refuse to eat?

Nothing comes to mind! I am not a super picky eater, I don’t love fish but I am willing try most anything (except any of the weird stuff you’d see on Survivor or something hahah)

Any pets?

Three cats! Gracie, Moneypenny (after the James Bond character), and Peeves (after the mischievous poltergeist from Harry Potter, and she definitely has lived up to her name)

Dream vacation spot?

I mentioned The Secret Life of Walter Mitty earlier and ever since I saw that movie, I have dreamed of going to Iceland.

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Blue Bell Cookies and Cream (but it must be Blue Bell).

Last book you read?

The Cousins by Karen McManus! I have been on a huge mystery kick recently and highly recommend all of her books

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I dreamed of being a photographer for National Geographic! I have always loved photography and always thought that would be so cool.

What are you looking forward to the most by working at the Homewood Library?

I am really excited to interact with all of the patrons! Come up and say hi if you see me at the Circulation desk! ?
