Read Across America is an initiative created by the National Education Association, to celebrate reading and to motivate children and teens to find the love and joy in reading. Here in the Children’s Library, our ultimate goal is to spark the love for reading, while creating a space and community where everyone feels seen and welcomed. This year has taught us the necessity, the importance, and the value of helping kids relate to what they read; whether through our READ WOKE/Diversity Reading challenges, the celebration of different cultures and heritages, and through intentionally displaying diverse books in our department. The intention for Read Across America and for the Children’s Department is to lift up inclusive and diverse stories so that kids across America, can see themselves reflected off the pages of the books they read.

For Read Across America 2021, we’re going to challenge ourselves to read books…about books. Now, I know what you’re thinking: How is that possible? I don’t know where to start in my search?!?!
