Beyond Books Presents: Winnie the Pooh!

Today is A. A. Milne’s birthday! He was born on January 18, 1882. We celebrated by throwing a Winnie the Pooh Party with lots of games, snacks, crafts, and reading Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Famous Bear written by Lindsay Mattick and illustrated by Sophie Blackall. Patrons were so fascinated by the true origin of Winnie the Pooh. Since the book is pretty long, and I was afraid I’ll lose the little ones with it, I condensed it by just talking about what’s going on in each page. It was a success! We had over 161 people attend the party, and everyone loved it!

After reading the book, everyone was able to go around the room to do the different stations.

As you can see, it was a full house this morning. Everyone had a great time and was able to do all the games and crafts.

One station was called “Kanga’s Craft Station.” They were able to make birthday crowns with pre-made foam crowns from Oriental Trading, which came with glittery foam stickers.

Eeyore’s lost his tail! Everyone had a chance to pin his tail back on him by closing their eyes and walking towards him hoping to pin it back in place. After they’ve successfully pinned it, they were either given candy or a Winnie the Pooh stamp.

January is so cold! Winter is here! Piglet’s favorite activity is ice fishing. Kids were able to enjoy his favorite hobby by fishing with magnetic poles and fish. The “water” is blue cellophane.

“Pooh’s Hunny Toss” was a fun game for everyone to see how far they can toss each bean bag on to the 3 honey pots. They were also given candy or a Winnie the Pooh stamp afterwards.

The snacks for this event were honeycombs, Tigger’s Tails (cheese puffs), and Winnie the Poohs (gummy bears). Unfortunately, I was not able to take a picture of the signs I made, but they turned out cute: popsicle sticks with the the names a la wood signs. Everyone enjoyed the snacks, especially the cheese puffs!

All-in-all, it was a success! I also put out different Winnie the Pooh books on display for everyone to check out. It is safe to say that Winnie the Pooh is STILL the most famous and beloved bear.
